GNWT-INF is proposing to place clean armour stone to protect the road embankments from ice scour at the North ferry landing. Also, a deteriorating concrete vault on the South ferry landing is to be covered with armour stone to prevent exposed reinforcing steel and concrete from further erosion. There is a large stockpile of clean armour stone near the Bridge. The work plan involves loading the stone in a dump truck, hauling it to the roadway, then placing the stone with an excavator. A rubber-tired loader will be used to load the trucks then feed the stone to the excavator. Each stone will be picked up and placed individually by the excavator which will have a thumb with the bucket to hold the stones while placing them. The placing of the stone will begin with the largest armour stone being placed at the toe of the embankment at the waterline.
