Apache Canada Ltd. - MV2014L1-0010

WL Application is for permission to conduct mechanical testing of a deep produced water disposal well C-1 previously installed in the 1970s at the Apache Former Pointed Mountain Plant site. The mechanical integrity testing of the disposal well C-1 will involve pressure testing and possible addition of hydrochloric acid to decalcify the well if deemed necessary. The Plant site is located west of the Liard River within the Liard Range of the Franklin Mountains, NWT

the proposed work plan at the Plant site is to assess the integrity of water disposal well C-1 and determine its potential for future use as a waste water disposal well. If, during testing is determined that the well required an acid wash to remove calcuim deposits, then approximately 2m3 of 28% hydrochloric acid will be injected to descale the well. Once used, the acidity of the hydrochloric acid will be considered spent because it will react with the calcite to repair the funtionality of the well,The spent acid will not be recovered and will go into the underlying formation.

As part of the integrity testing, water drawn from supply wells at the Plant site will be used for pressure testing of the well; however, the volume to be used does not require licencing since it will not exceed 100m3/day.
