Philippe di Pizzo
Philippe di Pizzo currently resides in Calgary, AB with his wife and four children. He is a geographer and environmental scientist who spent 30 years in the Canadian north. Specializing in Northern science and environmental impact assessment, he holds a College Degree in Science from Ahuntsic College, a Bachelor of Science, and a Master of Environmental Science from the University of Quebec. He has worked in James Bay with the Grand Council of the Cree as environmental advisor, and in Nunavik as senior political advisor and Head of several departments of the Kativik Regional Government.
In 1996 he moved to Nunavut, first to Arviat with the Kivalliq Wildlife Board, then to Gjoa Haven where he spent 11 years as the Executive Director and Chief Administrative Officer of the Nunavut Water Board. He was one of the founding partners and President of Arktis Solutions Inc., a science and engineering firm based in Yellowknife which he left in 2008 to take early retirement and spend time on social projects with the Native Women’s Centre and the Salvation Army.
Philippe has sat on numerous boards: the Native Para-judicial Services of Quebec, the Montreal Native Friendship Centre, the Nuna Pillugu Environmental Action Group, the Yellowknife Food Bank, the West Kitikmeot Slave Study, and the Canadian Environmental Certificate Assessment Board to name a few. He enjoys long distance running and scuba diving, and has traveled extensively throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia. He presently works for Air Canada Jazz.
